What To Wear When Coming To Philly
With the excitement around this weekend’s Eagles football game. I was weirdly inspired to write about sports. And I know what you’re thinking. “But you only talk about the frilly and the pretty on this platform.” Well, what would you say if I said that they can be combined?
Being born and raised in this mini concrete jungle, I’ve never wanted to stick out. The more camouflaged, the better (literally and figuratively). I believe that when you live in a city, you tend to want to adorn a rather tough exterior. One that says “I’m not one to mess with” or “I’m all about my business.”
However, this will not be, just that. I truly believe that you can say all that you wish with your clothing and add a touch of creativity. Oh, and don’t worry, we will give examples. :)
Philly loves their sports teams. And that devil’s advocate in me would definitely say, “HELL NO” to wearing your favorite sports jersey (preferably Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers related 😉). But there’s a way to do it! So let’s get… creative!
The Dress: Sport your father’s, partner, or mother’s oversized jersey as a dress. Pair it with some fire sneakers or even cute platform chunky boots.
Elevated: Heels. Heels. Heels. They elevate everything. Physically and aesthetically lol With your favorite pair of baggy camp pants or some simple jeans. This would be perfect for a date night at a sporting event.
Chill: This would’ve been a perfect idea during the World Cup. And a perfect way to solidify your comfort for after-game shenanigans. Pair your sports jersey with sweats or even trousers to keep you nimble when poles begin to be climbed and cars begin to be flipped (oh Philly lol).
That cheesesteak embroidered tee you got from an Old City gift shop, looks a little… cheesy (pun oh so intended). Well let’s add a little punch while you do your touristy thang!
If you're coming to Philly from out of town during this exciting time. You might be tempted to take in all of the tourist-heavy areas. Which is cool. If you do decide to purchase that kitschy T-shirt from our many gift shops. Try styling them this way.
FUNKY PANTS: You are here for a fun time, not a long time. So combine that pretzel tee with some funky, bright, pattern-heavy pants. Don’t be afraid to stand out.
CLASSIC: You can never go wrong with a simple skirt. And even better if it’s satin! Add some sophistication to a fun tee!
BOLD AF: Go for the goal! Bright shirt. Bright bottoms. Bright shoes. Everything bright.
Keeping it cozy is an a-plus in this city. You’re always traveling somewhere. Whether via SEPTA (which can be grimey), Uber, or vehicle.
But the key to making athletic wear fun and exciting is color! Instead of the typical grey, black, or neutral. Find some brighter hues to give your chill day a little punch.
