Shower to Your Health: Ouai Detox Shampoo Review

By: Sara Collins and Isabella Atchick

Ouai’s (pronounced “way”) Detox Clarifying Shampoo is looking out for you. Are you tired of your hair getting greasy easily and the never-ending mess of getting your hair to look as “perfect” as you can? This shampoo changed that for us! With the way the ingredients have worked in our hair, it has become stronger and more vibrant.

Why Do We Love It?

We both received our sample size (See Figure 1) from a subscription service and have been persuaded to want more by the ways it has worked wonders. Isabella’s thoughts on the product are: “I tried out a sample of this shampoo and after each use, I just wanted more. After washing, my hair had great body and reduced buildup.” Sara’s thoughts on the product are: “I wash my hair about two or three times a week because I use a deep conditioner. When prepping for the deep conditioner, I’ve loved using this shampoo because it smells really good and feels light on my hair. See (Figure 2) to see my results from using this shampoo, the other picture is how much I have left even though I’ve been using it for a month or two and have long hair.”

Glimpse Into the Brand

Ouai was founded almost a decade ago, in 2016 by Jen Atkin. Atkin is an acclaimed hairstylist who has worked on clients such as the Jenner and Kardashian families. All of their products are healthy for your hair while leaving out the chance of any allergens to gluten, sulfates, parabens, and phthalates, and most products are free of silicone. While they are free of all of these ingredients, they also maintain a cruelty-free brand. They also give shoppers the opportunity of 15% off their products, if you just sign up for their email and text message list (Ouai Website).

What’s So Great About This Shampoo?

The main ingredients of the detoxifying shampoo are apple cider vinegar, tamarind seed extract, and chelating agents. These ingredients work to remove the grimes and oils of your hair and strengthen hair after the use of styling products as well as after exposure to minerals within the water. Styling products meaning things like hairspray or mousse.

This shampoo works best when used by people with normal to dry, oily, or shiny hair. It’ll even help those with dry scalps and dandruff and is made with safe ingredients for those with colored hair. The shampoo also works with short and long, curly and straight, as well as fine and damaged hair. As stated before, we both have different hair types with Sara’s being long, straight, and fine. Isabella’s is short, straight, and fine causing us to have different hair types yet have a great experience with the same shampoo. This product is very inclusive when it comes to both accessibility of buying it and who can use it.

Where Can I Find It?

Other than their website, this product is sold in many stores that could be local to you! Stores such as Kohl’s, Ulta Beauty, Amazon, Sephora, Target, Urban Outfitters, and more. With the smallest size being a 10oz bottle and the largest being a 32 oz pouch (only sold at Revolve.com), it is hard not to resist trying it to perfect your hair. The only downside is with it being a more valued brand, this shampoo averages at $30.00 for a 10 oz bottle among all websites. If you are hesitant to try it for yourself, take into consideration that their reviews on their site average 4.7/5 stars, and if you worry about the environment, don’t worry, the bottle is entirely recyclable.
