Catch Up With ThredUP
By: Sara Collins
These days everything is easily accessible online and with busy schedules, it makes a lot of sense to do your shopping at home too. Most people go right to traditional high-end stores but ThredUP offers a lot of high-end brands for a cheaper price. If you’re tired of hearing your partner talk to you about expenses try out ThredUP so you don’t have to say goodbye to your beloved stores.
Background Info
ThredUp is owned by James Reinhart, Chris Homer, and Oliver Lubin. The business was founded back in 2009, making it 13 years of ThredUP. Reinhart is the CEO of the company and before starting ThredUP he was the co-founder of the Beacon Education Network. Lubin is the co-founder of the business and the Chief Creative Officer. Homer is the Chief Technology Officer.
ThredUP vs. Traditional Thrifting
ThredUP is easily accessible on their application: (ThredUp App) while most thrift stores are only in-person or have a website that has been untouched for years. With the use of their app, you will be able to find the items you are looking for with ease. They can also be found on the internet: (ThredUP's Website).
ThredUP also offers its customers ways to sell and or donate items. Most competitors only allow for the selling of items and if the item can not be sold will not take it, but ThredUP makes sure to donate any clothing that wasn’t in the right conditions to be rehomed.
According to ThredUp’s website they are “The world’s largest online thrift store has published their tenth Annual Fashion Resale Market and Trend Report.” (ThredUp 2022 Resale Report).
They also provide men’s, women’s, kid’s and junior clothing, so you can find everything needed for your family!
Have Too Many Clothes?
With ThredUP’s cleanout system you can sell, donate, or allow them to choose what clothing meets which criteria. If you choose to leave it up to the employees they will take anything that has holes, stains, or any non-trendy clothing and donate them for you, saving you the time from going to different stores. On their app and website, there is a spot to request a large bag, which currently are unalivable due to high demand (ThredUP Clean Out). The kit comes with the shipping label and also a reminder of what they will accept to be sold. Once all of the clothes are in the bag they give the option of USPS or FedEx to ship them back to them.
From personal experience, when receiving the bag in the mail it seemed to be very small but once the clothes were placed into the bag, more than a trash bag full of clothes fit.
